The by-election in Dhaka-17 constituency, the vacant seat for the demise of actor and lawmaker Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque will be held in mid-July.
Election Commission sources confirmed the matter.
According to the sources, the commission took the decision in a meeting held on May 25. The election schedule might be announced on May 30 or June 1 and the polls might be held on July 17.
Contacted, Forhad Ahmmed Khan, joint secretary of the management unit of the election commission said, the by-polls in the Dhaka-17 constituency might be held in mid-July.
Elections in some local government bodies might also be held at that time, he added.
Legendary actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque passed away at a hospital in Singapore on May 15.
