Students of Shaheed Suhrawardy College claimed that third-party incitement was behind the violence among several colleges in Dhaka, including Kabi Nazrul Government College, Shaheed Suhrawardy College, and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Molla College, following the death of a student at Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital, reports Dhaka Tribune.
They made this statement during a press conference under the banner of "General Students" on Tuesday afternoon at the Suhrawardy College campus.
Likhon Islam, a student of the Islamic Studies Department (2020-21 session) at Suhrawardy College, said: “We strongly condemn the attacks, vandalism, and looting carried out by a group of students from several colleges during the 1st and 4th-year exams at Suhrawardy College. Despite this, Suhrawardy College students could have demonstrated responsibility and tolerance. However, the incitement and involvement of a third party made that impossible.”
He further said: “We believe attacking any educational institution is a condemnable act. We urge Suhrawardy College students to maintain a tolerant attitude and avoid getting involved in violence incited by third parties. We also urge law enforcement and the interim government to quickly identify and bring the individuals responsible for incitement under the law.”
