England made their highest Champions Trophy total scoring 351 runs thanks to epic 165 runs from opener Ben Duckett in the match held at Pakistan’s Gaddafi National Stadium on Saturday.
England's record-breaking batting
Australian captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to field first. England's batsmen were aggressive from the very beginning. Openers Duckett and Joe Root put on a brilliant partnership of 158 runs in first wicket partnership.
Duckett scored a fifty off 51 balls and a century off 95 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 165 off 143 balls at Marnus Labuschagne's slower ball. His brilliant innings included 14 fours and 5 sixes.
Joe Root scored 68 runs, along with a few more cameo innings, as England's total stood at 351 for 8 in the stipulated 50 overs.
Duckett's innings made history
The highest individual innings in the history of the Champions Trophy so far was 145 runs by New Zealand's Nathan Astle and Zimbabwe's Andy Flower. Today, Duckett broke that record and took the top spot alone.
Duckett also holds the record for the highest individual innings for England in ICC ODI events (World Cup and Champions Trophy), surpassing Andrew Strauss' 158 against India in the 2011 World Cup.
