Information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuj Alam said that those involved in enforced disappearances will be brought to justice during the interim government’s tenure.
He made the statement on Tuesday during a views sharing meeting with the families of enforce-disappearance victims, organized by ‘Mayer Dak’ at Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Criticizing the ousted prime minster Sheikh Hasina, the adviser said that Hasina took the revenge of her father’s murder by enforced disappearances.
In 2013 and 2014, when people were fighting for voting rights, the most disappearances were committed. The main purpose of which was to destroy the electoral system, the adviser continued.
Mahfuj said that the government has already formed an investigation commission on enforced disappearances. As per the proposal of this commission, arrest warrants have been issued against many involved in disappearances. Investigations are underway against many.
Criticizing the previous government, he said that those who politically opposed the Awami League (AL) government were disappeared with the tag of terrorists and militants and their relatives were terrorized. Various state institutions were also used in the disappearances.
“Sheikh Hasina is still conspiring against the country from India, which is very sad,” he said. AL will not be allowed to stand politically in this country again, he continued.
“If the AL is given a chance, the number of disappearances and murders in the country will increase again. They will not be given this chance. The current government is working to restore the lost human rights that Sheikh Hasina took away from the people,” the adviser furthered.
The adviser called on the families of the victims of disappearances and extrajudicial killings to remain united and promised to stand by them on behalf of the government.
At the exchange of views, the family members of the victims of disappearances demanded justice for those involved in the disappearances and sought the search for their disappeared relatives.
