The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) of Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to strengthen international cooperation in combating corruption, reports BSS.
The agreement was signed by ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen and NACC President Suchart Trakulkasemsuk on behalf of their respective countries.
Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra witnessed the signing ceremony, held on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.
Dr Abdul Momen said he hoped the MoU would improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts in both countries. “Many Bangladeshi corruption suspects have taken shelter in some neighbouring countries. We believe this MoU will help track them down and bring them to justice,” he stated.
The MoU aligns with Article 48 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which encourages bilateral and multilateral agreements to promote cooperation among law enforcement agencies.
According to the agreement, both countries will exchange relevant initial information, share best practices, initiate joint projects, and conduct collaborative research and activities to prevent and fight corruption.
