Yasin Sheikh, a young Bangladeshi, has lost his life in a Ukrainian missile attack in the Russia-Ukraine war.
The deceased Yasin's hailed from Marichali village of Douhakhla in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh. Yasin Sheikh was killed while fighting in Ukraine on March 27.
Yasin Sheikh participated in the Ukraine war as a mercenary in the Russian army. Earlier, he was a degree college student at the Government Bangabandhu College in Pallavi of Dhaka for the 2022-23 sessions.
The family of the deceased said, “On Tuesday afternoon, the day after Eid-ul-Fitr, Yasin's fellow soldier and friend Mehedi informed his family of the death. The family members are shocked by the incident. A shadow of mourning has fallen on the area. The family wants the body back.”
Yasin is learning Russian at an institution in Dhaka to go to Russia. Later, with the help of a friend, Yasin got a good job in a company in Russia. But no one knows how he joined the Russian army.
Yasin's mother Firoza Khatun said, "It was his father's dream that his son would join the army. He fulfilled his father's dream and joined the Russian army. But after three months of service in that company, about 11,000 kilometers from Moscow, the journey of that dream was stopped by the missile attack in Ukraine on March 27."
She also said, "Yasin's father died 9 years ago. After the boy's father died, he continued his studies with great struggle. He wanted to go abroad to bring prosperity to the family. That's why we took a lot of loans and sent him abroad. Now everything is over for us. Now we just want our son's body back."
Gauripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sajjadul Hasan said, "AC Land has already visited that house to inquire about the family. The matter is being reported to the government's higher authorities, including the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare, and the process of taking legal action is underway."
