Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer for the Northern Region of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), has called for a nationwide protest on April 7 in response to the ongoing violence in Gaza.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Sarjis urged Bangladeshis to unite and take to the streets in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who have called for a global strike to demand an end to Israeli military actions. He emphasized that the protests should transcend party lines and be held under the banner of “Bangladesh,” not any political party.
“We must stand together, regardless of political affiliation, to show our unity with Gaza. This is not a protest for any party, but for the oppressed people of Gaza,” Sarjis said in his message.
He further called on student bodies in each district to take responsibility for organizing local demonstrations, stressing that the day should be dedicated to the cause of Palestinian solidarity, not political advantage.
