A swimming pool has been opened to provide swimming training for all students of Bashundhara Public School and College (BPSC).
On Sunday, in the presence of school teachers, students, guardians, and officials from Bashundhara Group, students took their first dive into the pool at the Bashundhara Sports Complex.
At the very beginning of the program, the school swimming instructor and national award-winning swimmer Promi Akhter and Setu Akhter demonstrated their skills in the pool. Following their instructions, students jumped into the water.
The swimming was conducted by the school’s assistant sports teacher and former national-level star athlete Zakia Sultana Subarna.
Bashundhara Public School and College Principal Brig Gen (Retd) Md Anisur Rahman said that they place strong emphasis on extra-curricular activities as part of their academic program.
He said, “Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is keen on sports and provided various opportunities for sports here. He instructed to train all the students in swimming.”
We have hired skilled and experienced instructors from BKSP, who have many achievements at the national level, he said, adding, “Each of our students will get the opportunity to learn swimming in an international-standard swimming pool for free.”
“The journey has begun.” He added that it was a gift from the Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan to all students and there are more surprises waiting for the students.
Israfil Hasan, a student of the eighth grade, said that having the opportunity to swim at school is a different experience, as no other schools he read earlier had swimming pools.
Those who know how to swim have swum already, said Ahnaf Hossain. He said, “There was a small competition. It feels good to think that from now on, I can swim regularly and gain more skills.”
Instructor Promi Akhter said, “I was a student of BKSP. I won medals in both senior and junior categories at the national level.”
“Bashundhara Public School and College has appointed me as an instructor. I will try my best to teach students how to swim well, so that they can also participate in various competitions and bring medals,” she expressed her determination.
Setu Akhter, a former student of BKSP and former swimming instructor at Mymensingh Girls Cadet College, said, “The goal is to take all the students of the school to a good position in swimming.”
