Starlink, the satellite internet venture by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has been officially approved to do business in Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). The announcement was made at a news briefing on Sunday at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, held in connection with the upcoming Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025.
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman (Senior Secretary) of both BIDA and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), confirmed the development, stating, “We gave the approval on the 29th of last month.”
Under Bangladeshi law, foreign companies must obtain BIDA registration to operate within the country. With this approval, Starlink is now cleared to begin laying the groundwork for introducing its low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet services, which are particularly well-suited for expanding high-speed connectivity in remote and underserved regions.
The move is seen as a major step forward in Bangladesh’s push to enhance its digital infrastructure and attract foreign technology investment. Starlink’s presence could significantly boost rural internet access, education, and digital inclusion as the nation looks to embrace the fourth industrial revolution.
