Final preparations are underway for a spectacular drone show set to illuminate the night sky over Dhaka on Pahela Baishakh (April 14), the Bengali New Year — a decidedly new addition to the celebrations in post-Uprising Bangladesh, where official programmes have rarely extended beyond sunset.
The country is poised to welcome the year 1432 of the Bengali calendar on Monday.
As part of the preparations, a trial run of the drone show was held on Saturday night in front of the National Parliament Building on Manik Mia Avenue. The event drew attention online for its unique fusion of technology and live music — much of which is planned for the main celebration.
The full drone show will take place at the same venue on Monday from 3pm and will be open to the public.
Sharing photos of the trial on Facebook, Shafiqul Alam, chief adviser’s press secretary, wrote: “Photos from today's trial run of the Drone Show due to be held on the Bengali New Year on April 14. Ministry of Cultural Affairs is holding the show with full support from the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.”
Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki also invited the public through social media, posting: “Images from the dry run of drone show today! It's just a glimpse of the entire show. Come join for a great show of Drone Images and live music. 14th April, 3pm, Manik Mia Ave.”
“The drone show is a gift from Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh!” he added.
Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, the event aims to usher in Bengali New Year 1432 with a vibrant celebration that blends traditional festivities with modern visual wonders.
