Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) conducted a mosquito control and special cleaning drive in Dhanmondi residential areas on Friday.
Local Government Department secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi was present there as the chief guest in the drive. In the presence of Dhaka South City Corporation administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia, the Waste Management Department, Health Department and Dhanmondi Society participated in this special cleaning drive.
450 cleaning workers from the Waste Management Department, 50 mosquito control workers from the Health Department, 100 volunteers from the Red Crescent Society, 50 from BD Clean and 50 volunteers from Dhanmondi Society participated in the cleaning drive that started at 7:30 am. Dhanmondi residential area was divided into 7 zones and the main roads, lakes, parks, mosques, and areas adjacent to Eidgah were cleaned and mosquito repellents were applied.
Speaking as the chief guest during the briefing to journalists during the cleanliness program, Local Government Department Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi said, “Dhaka South City Corporation and various area-based societies are trying their best to make Dhaka a beautiful and livable city. Meanwhile, the government is formulating a well-planned and integrated master plan with the participation of RAJUK, Public Works, BRTA, Police and other organizations.”
In addition, the secretary said that a master plan is also being formulated for sewage disposal. He called on the city residents to fulfill their civic duty by keeping their yards clean.
Speaking as the special guest, South City Corporation administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia said, “To prevent the outbreak of dengue during the monsoon season, special cleaning and mosquito control campaigns will be conducted in every area of the South City Corporation. The campaign has started from Dhanmondi.”
