Chief Justice of Bangladesh Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed met the family of Shaheed Abu Sayeed in Babanpur village of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur on Sunday afternoon, reports BSS.

After reaching there, the Chief Justice visited the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, offered Ziayarat and special munajats seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Abu Sayeed and all the martyrs of the country.

He met Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain, mother Monwara Begum, brothers Ramzan Ali and Abu Hossain, and other family members in their courtyard.

The Chief Justice inquired about the health and well-being of Abu Sayeed's parents and listened to them attentively with due respect.

Earlier at noon, the Chief Justice visited Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square in front of Gate No. 1 of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in the city.

Upon reaching the campus, Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali, welcomed the Chief Justice with flowers.

The Chief Justice visited the place where the memory of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a student of the English Department of Begum Rokeya University, was intertwined with the anti-discrimination student movement.

He paid deep respect to the memory of Shaheed Abu Sayeed.

During this time, the Chief Justice spoke to Shaheed Abu Sayeed's classmates, teammates and colleagues. He also spoke to local journalists.

He heard from eyewitnesses in front of Gate No. 1 of Begum Rokeya University about the heroic courage and sacrifice of Shaheed Abu Sayeed on July 16, 2024.

At that time, the Chief Justice said that the nation will remember the 'Supreme Sacrifice' of Shaheed Abu Sayeed with respect forever.

He said that just as Dr Shamsuzzoha of Rajshahi University stood as a symbol of nationalism and independence in the 1960s, the same thing was repeated many years later through Abu Sayeed's Supreme Sacrifice on July 24.

The Vice-chancellor informed the Chief Justice about the various activities undertaken by the university administration in memory of Shaheed Abu Sayeed.

University officials, teachers, students, officials and employees were present at the time.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Justice inspected the activities of the Rangpur Judge's Court and visited various courts and other tribunals in Rangpur, exchanged views with the judges on various issues.

The Chief Justice was welcomed there by Senior District and Sessions Judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir and judges of various courts, with flowers.

Later, the Chief Justice planted a local indigenous Haribhanga variety of mango sapling in front of the District Judge Court.

Then, he visited the benches of various judges of the District Judge Court, the Rangpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Court and the Metropolitan and Judicial Magistrate Courts.

During the court visit, the Chief Justice spoke to the judges of the Rangpur Metropolitan and Judicial Magistrate Courts and provided necessary guidance.
