Trump's Tariffs: Two Letters to be sent to the US in 48 hrs

In the wake of the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump administration, Bangladesh government will send two letters to the United States within next 48 hours.

One letter from the Chief Advisor will be sent to US President Donald Trump and one letter from the Trade Advisor will be sent to the US Trade Department USTR.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the Finance Ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat on Sunday. The Chief Advisor's press secretary Shafiqul Alam informed this to the reporters after the meeting.

He said, “The meeting was attended by four advisors, a high-level representative, a special ambassador, about 10 secretaries and four representatives from big businessmen.”

The press secretary said, “We are constantly talking to the USA officials. That is their embassy officials in Dhaka...On the other side is the USTR of the USA. We will give two letters based on our decision. Two letters will be sent within the next 48 hours. One letter will be sent from our chief advisor to US President Donald Trump. Another letter will be sent from our commerce advisor to USTR.

"What will be in the letter? In response to the question from reporters, he said, “What will be in the letter, what kind of language there will be were discussed today. Today there were four advisors, a high representative, a special ambassador, and about 10 secretaries. There were four representatives from among the big businessmen. We talked to everyone, and after the talks, it was decided that two letters will be sent very quickly within 48 hours.”

"Whatever will be in the letter will be business-friendly. We will look after the business interests of Bangladesh. We will be more business-friendly than the countries that are competitive with Bangladesh, and thus will be this letter. It will be more business-friendly, so that there is a win-win situation for the USA and us and that market access for us increases. US is the largest market in the world, where we have the opportunity to export many billions of dollars more. That is what our advisors and business leaders said today," he said.
