The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file two separate cases against former Member of Parliament from Chattogram-7 constituency and ex-foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, along with his wife, Nurun Fatema Hasan, on charges of corruption, reports BSS.
ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen confirmed the decision during a regular briefing at the ACC headquarters. According to Momen, the couple is accused of amassing wealth through the abuse of power, with their declared income failing to match their actual assets.
In one of the cases, the ACC's preliminary investigation found that during Dr. Hasan Mahmud's tenure as foreign minister, he allegedly accumulated around 39 crore taka through misuse of state power. The investigation further revealed suspicious financial activities across nine of his bank accounts, with transactions that did not align with his disclosed sources of income.
Additionally, the ACC will file another case involving both Dr. Hasan Mahmud and his wife, following findings of suspicious transactions through 56 bank accounts, amounting to about 683 crore taka. These financial dealings were found to be entirely inconsistent with their reported sources of income, according to the commission.
