A second mission of emergency relief, rescue, and medical assistance has been dispatched from Bangladesh to Myanmar in response to the devastating earthquake that struck the region. A rescue team, equipped with necessary tools, a medical team with essential emergency medical supplies, and 15 tons of relief materials have departed for Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, via one Bangladesh Army and two Bangladesh Air Force transport aircraft, according to a Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
On the instructions of the Chief Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh, an initiative was launched on March 28, 2025, to send relief materials and rescue and medical teams to the affected areas in Myanmar, as part of the government's response to the devastating earthquake that affected both Myanmar and Thailand. In the first phase, 16.5 tons of emergency relief supplies were successfully sent to Myanmar through two transport aircraft from the Bangladesh Army and Air Force on March 30, 2025.
Continuing this humanitarian effort, the relief materials for Myanmar departed on April 1, 2025, at 11:30 AM, ensuring the continuation of much-needed support to those affected by the disaster.
The 55-member Bangladesh Assistance Team, led by Army Colonel Md. Shamim Iftakhar, will carry out rescue operations and provide emergency medical services in the earthquake-stricken areas of Myanmar. The rescue team includes 34 members: 21 from the Bangladesh Army, two from the Navy, one from the Air Force, and 10 from the Fire Service and Civil Defense. Additionally, the 21-member medical assistance team consists of 10 members from the Army, one from the Navy, two from the Air Force, and eight civilian specialist doctors and nurses.
In addition to the teams, the 15 tons of relief materials being sent today include dry food, purified water, tents, hygiene products, medicines, and other essential supplies. This initiative has received full support from the Bangladesh Armed Forces as well as from various government ministries, including the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Their collaboration ensures the success of this crucial humanitarian mission.
This generous initiative underscores Bangladesh's commitment to good neighborly relations with Myanmar. The Bangladesh Armed Forces have expressed their gratitude to all those involved, noting that this humanitarian assistance will help alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake. It also strengthens mutual trust and cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The Bangladesh Armed Forces remain dedicated to offering assistance globally, following the government's directives to provide aid whenever and wherever it is needed.
