India keen in building positive, constructive relations with Bangladesh: Vikram Misri

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok on Friday.

The issue of Sheikh Hasina's extradition was discussed in the meeting, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, reports ANI.

In a special briefing, Vikram Misri said, “Sheikh Hasina's extradition was discussed in the meeting. It is not possible to say anything more. Prime Minister Modi expressed India's concern about the safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh, especially the Hindu community, in the meeting.”

Vikram Misri said, “Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. He also highlighted India's interest in building positive and constructive relations with Bangladesh. Regarding the border, Modi said that strict enforcement of law and prevention of illegal infiltration are essential to maintain border security.”

In a post on his X handle, Modi wrote, "With other BIMSTEC leaders at the summit held in Bangkok, Thailand. We have reaffirmed our commitment to enhance cooperation in various sectors. May our efforts bring positive changes in people's lives!"
