An organized group of robbers struck six shops and houses in a single night in Mirpur, Dhaka, leaving local traders in fear. CCTV footage revealed that, around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, three individuals emerged from a private car and targeted a grocery store, 'Ma Moni,' on Line 20 of Block A, Mirpur 10. The robbers broke the store's lock, stealing both cash and goods, before returning to collect a cash box and other valuables.
'Ma Moni' store owner Arman Hossain said, "When I came in the morning, I saw that the shutter was installed, but the lock was broken. The cash box and goods were gone."
Punjabi shop owner Ariful Islam and Salman Biryani House owner Rubel Mia also made the same complaint.
The same gang robbed three nearby shops using the same tactic. The gang's operation continued until 5 am. In addition, two other houses in the area were robbed at the same time.
Another shopkeeper, Rubel Mia, said, I have filed a complaint with the police station about the robbery at the shop. The police have come and collected evidence.
He also said, “I have been running a shop at the same address for 28 years. Such a heinous incident has never happened. They took away goods worth 1.5 lakh taka including cash. My house is on the second floor of a building in front of the shop. I closed the shop around 12:15 am. The way they robbed the shop is unbelievable. We are in a state of insecurity. Let the involved parties be identified. Let the administration ensure security.”
CCTV footage showed three members of the gang. One was wearing sneakers. He was wearing a green suit. One was looking around first. Then the other two accomplices entered the shop and took out all the goods one by one. At that time, they had sharp weapons in their hands.
