Six Israeli captives have been released in Gaza’s Nuseirat, Rafah and Gaza City, in exchange for 602 Palestinians held in Israeli jails, Al Jazeera and BBC reported.
Eliya Cohen, Omer Shem Tov, Omer Wenkert were released in Nuseirat, central Gaza, while Avera Mengistu and Tal Shoham were freed in Rafah, southern Gaza.
In return, Israel is set to free 602 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
Meanwhile, the family of deceased Israeli captive Shiri Bibas confirmed that her remains have been identified after a body returned from Gaza on Thursday was discovered to belong to another person.
Gaza’s Health Ministry has confirmed 48,319 Palestinian deaths in Israel’s war on Gaza, while 111,749 people have been wounded. The Government Media Office updated its death toll to at least 61,709, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
On the other hand, at least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks and more than 200 were taken captive.
