Bangladesh has a total of 1,294 rivers, according to a recently published "Draft List of Rivers of Bangladesh-2025" by the Ministry of Water Resources.
A press release from the ministry provided this information.
According to the ministry, the draft list, obtained from the divisional commissioners, includes the names of the rivers, divisions, districts, upazilas, source, mouth, length, and local names.
To determine the number of rivers in Bangladesh, the list received from all divisional commissioners was re-verified, and the updated draft list of rivers has been published on the website.
The press release also stated that if there are any additions, omissions, or corrections to the draft list, relevant opinions and information (if available) should be submitted via email or postal mail to the Monitoring and Implementation-1 Section, Development Wing, Ministry of Water Resources, Bangladesh Secretariat, by April 7.
