Nasir Hossain, once known as the finisher of the Bangladesh national team, has finally returned to competitive cricket after serving a lengthy ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for concealing information.
On Monday, Nasir made his much-anticipated return, playing for Rupganj Tigers against Gazi Group Cricketers in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League. The 33-year-old all-rounder bowled 10 overs, conceding 31 runs and picking up one wicket.
Nasir was banned in 2021 after he failed to disclose a gift—an iPhone—received while participating in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Upon investigation, he admitted to the offense, and the ICC handed him a two-year ban from all forms of cricket, including a six-month suspended sentence.
Having fulfilled all conditions set by the ICC, including mandatory participation in anti-corruption education programs, the ban on Nasir was lifted on Sunday (April 6). The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed his eligibility to return to cricket in an official statement.
"As per the terms of the sanction, Nasir Hossain has now fulfilled all requirements, including completing the mandatory Anti-Corruption Education session. This has paved the way for his eligibility to re-enter official cricket as of April 7, 2025," the statement read.
After nearly 20 months on the sidelines, Nasir’s return marks a new chapter in his career as he looks to regain his place in the domestic cricket scene.
