Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Muhammad Nahid Islam stressed the urgent need for state reforms, stating that the ongoing July movement is about transforming the state, not just changing individuals. Speaking at the NCP’s Pohela Boishakh celebration on Eskaton Road in the capital, Nahid called for the immediate implementation of reforms, aiming to achieve justice and progress for the nation.
In his remarks, Nahid criticized the previous government for turning Pohela Boishakh celebrations into a political tool. He celebrated the current Boishakh as the first time in years the country can celebrate free of Hasina’s influence and fascist politics. “For the first time, we are able to celebrate Pohela Boishakh without the shadow of fascism and without political manipulation,” Nahid said.
The NCP leader further emphasized the importance of state renewal, asserting that while the July movement has initiated change, it will not succeed unless the state’s structure is transformed. "We want the renewal of the state. The July Revolution has started this process, but without structural changes, its impact will be limited," he stated.
He also reiterated the NCP's commitment to the agenda of the Constituent Assembly elections and stressed that the party’s reform agenda would continue to challenge and eliminate fascism in the state.
At the event, NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain echoed Nahid’s position, stating that an interim government must carry out the necessary reforms so that future leaders can build on these changes and ensure lasting progress.
