Reigning Big Bash League (BBL) champions Hobart Hurricanes have expressed interest in Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain as they prepare to take part in the second edition of the Guyana-based T20 tournament, the Global Super League (GSL), scheduled to begin in July this year.
Rishad, who was picked by the Tasmania-based franchise during last season’s BBL draft, became only the second Bangladeshi cricketer after Shakib Al Hasan to be selected by a BBL team.
However, the 21-year-old leg-spinner was unable to feature in the tournament due to a scheduling clash with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country’s domestic franchise T20 competition.
The Hurricanes remain eager to secure Rishad’s services for the GSL and have already contacted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding his availability.
However, his participation appears unlikely as Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka at that time for a full series comprising Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
Meanwhile, among Bangladeshi sides, only the current GSL champions Rangpur Riders have received an invitation to return for this year’s tournament.
Notably, Fortune Barishal, the recent BPL champions, were not extended an invitation to participate in the upcoming edition of the GSL.
