Salahuddin Ahmed, a senior member of the BNP standing committee, made a provocative political statement during a Boisakhi cultural event organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Social Cultural Organization (JASAS) in Dhaka on Monday. Speaking at the occasion of the Bengali New Year celebrations, Ahmed declared that the Awami League had "died in Dhaka" due to the mass uprising of students and the public and was later "buried in Delhi."
Highlighting the historical significance of the event, Ahmed said that the fall of fascism was a result of the active participation of people from all walks of life, and this struggle would go down in South Asian history. He described the participation of students, workers, and the public as a turning point for the nation.
Ahmed further criticized the Awami League for promoting practices like the Mangal Procession, which he claimed were intended to undermine the core cultural traditions of Bangladesh. He urged the people to "boycott Indian culture" and embrace Bengali culture, emphasizing the importance of Boisakhi processions, fairs, and panta bhat as symbols of their heritage.
