The government is working to further reduce internet prices in the country, said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor in charge of the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology.
He said that the price of submarine cable bandwidth has already been reduced by 10 percent. Policy support is being provided to mobile and broadband internet service providers. Through which it is possible to provide improved services.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said this at a seminar on the first day of the four-day Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 that began on Monday with the aim of attracting foreign investment.
He said, “I want to make it clear at the investment conference that the current government will not shut down the internet even for a moment. Effective steps have been taken so that no one can shut down the internet in the future.”
Ahmad Taiyeb also said that the government is providing tariff benefits to domestic handset manufacturers to increase the use of smartphones. He said that the Personal Data Protection Act is very important. Discussions are underway with stakeholders on this. It will be completed by April. The Personal Information Protection Act will be finalized by next May.
