To promote environmental conservation and encourage greening, Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho jointly distributed saplings of different species among students in Sherpur.
The tree plantation and sapling distribution programme was held at a government primary school in Sherpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
More than 100 students received fruit-bearing, timber, medicinal and forest tree saplings. As part of the programme, several fruit tree saplings were also planted on the school premises.
Among those present were Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sherpur district adviser and journalist Hakim Babul, Head Teacher Hasanat Jahan, assistant teachers Badrun Nahar, Tamanna Jannat, Shamima Akter, Swapna Rani Sutradhar, Nasrin Rahman Rumi and Halima Khatun, Clean Up Sherpur district coordinator Al Amin Raju, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sherpur district President Minhaj Uddin, Vice-President Ashraful Islam, General Secretary and journalist Mehedi Hasan Shamim, Publicity Secretary Jihad Rana, Hospitality Secretary Rakib Ahmed, member Jewel Ahmed and other members of the organisation.
Student Priyanka Rani Pal expressed her delight after receiving a sapling.
"I am very happy to receive this tree from Bashundhara Shuvosangho and Bashundhara Tissue. I will plant it carefully at my home and take good care of it," she said.
Head Teacher Hasanat Jahan described the initiative as highly commendable, saying it would help raise environmental awareness among students and encourage them to plant more trees.
"We sincerely thank Bashundhara Shuvosangho for organising this programme," she said.
Hakim Babul, adviser to Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sherpur district, said trees are vital for maintaining ecological balance, tackling the adverse impacts of climate change and building a greener, more liveable world for future generations.
