Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Demra thana unit organised a dengue awareness and cleanliness campaign in the capital on Thursday to help prevent the spread of dengue and eliminate breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
As part of the programme, volunteers removed stagnant water from various locations, cleared bushes and weeds, and destroyed potential mosquito breeding sites in the area.
They also raised awareness among local residents about dengue prevention and urged them to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean on a regular basis.
Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho said preventing dengue requires active public participation alongside government efforts. They encouraged residents to remove stagnant water at least once a week and maintain regular cleanliness to significantly reduce the risk of mosquito breeding.
The campaign was conducted under the overall guidance of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka Metropolitan Coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton and was led by Demra thana unit President Shaharul Islam Shakil and General Secretary Sadman.
Among those present were Ramna thana unit President Ashiq Ahmed, Jatrabari thana unit President Md Toufiqul Islam, Vice-President Shawon Sutradhar, Demra thana unit Joint General Secretary DM Riad, Organising Secretary Samrat, Religious Affairs Secretary Mawlana Rezaur Rahman Bappi, and members Shaheen and Rubayet, along with other volunteers.
Speaking at the programme, Abdul Hannan Milton said public awareness, cleanliness and civic responsibility are the most effective tools in preventing dengue.
"If everyone regularly destroys mosquito breeding sites and maintains a clean environment, the spread of dengue can be controlled to a great extent. Young people must come forward to raise awareness and play an active role in building a healthier city," he said.
Demra thana unit Adviser Md Monirul Islam said a clean environment is the foundation of a healthy life and stressed that there is no alternative to collective action and public awareness in combating dengue.
At the end of the campaign, participants pledged to continue organising regular cleanliness drives, promote dengue awareness, and work actively to build a healthier and safer environment.
Organisers said Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Demra thana unit will continue implementing timely public welfare programmes aimed at environmental protection, public health and civic awareness.
