Bashundhara Tissue and the Chittagong University unit Bashundhara Shuvosangho held a tree plantation programme on the campus on Sunday.
With a commitment to building a greener, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly campus, the programme was inaugurated in front of the auditorium of the university’s new Faculty of Arts.
Various saplings, including fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal species, were planted at several key locations across the campus, including Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, Atish Dipankar Hall, and Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall.
The programme was inaugurated by Professor Makhon Chandra Roy of the Department of Bangla. Associate Professor Mohammad Mozammel Hoque and Assistant Professor Md Roman Miah of the Department of Philosophy, and Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanan were also present.
Professor Makhon Chandra said the continuous public welfare and social initiatives undertaken by Bashundhara Shuvosangho are truly commendable. Planting trees alone is not enough; regular care and maintenance are essential to make such initiatives successful, he said.
Associate Professor Mozammel Hoque said that such initiatives by young people are highly inspiring in protecting the environment and safeguarding public health. A tree is not only a resource of nature but also a life-giving gift for future generations, he added.
Assistant Professor Roman Miah said, “Every tree is a living entity. When students plant trees with their own hands, they become more responsible not only for the environment but also towards society.”
Chittagong University unit Shuvosangho President Jannatul Ferdous said, “Our goal is to build a green, beautiful, and safe campus. As a social service organisation, we are committed to playing a responsible role in protecting the environment and public health.”
