Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president and former national captain Tamim Iqbal has been awarded Honorary Life Membership by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), becoming one of a select few Bangladeshis to receive the prestigious recognition.
MCC announced on Sunday that Tamim was among five international cricketers elected for the honour, alongside New Zealand stars Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, Australia’s Mel Jones and India’s Cheteshwar Pujara.
The award recognises Tamim’s outstanding contribution to cricket, both as one of Bangladesh’s finest batters and now as the youngest president in BCB history.
Tamim made his Test debut in 2008 and went on to score 5,134 runs in the format, making him Bangladesh’s second-highest Test run-scorer. In One-Day Internationals, he remains the country’s leading run-getter with 8,357 runs in 243 matches.
One of Tamim’s most memorable achievements came at Lord’s itself, where he scored a century against England in 2010 to earn a place on the iconic Honours Board.
MCC chief executive Rob Lawson said that the club was “delighted” to welcome the five new Honorary Life Members.
“Each of them is richly deserving of the recognition for their lifelong dedication to the game,” Lawson said.
Founded in 1787, MCC is the custodian of cricket’s Laws and one of the sport’s most historic institutions.
