Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, finance adviser of the interim government, received Tk 7,938,229 from the state treasury for medical treatment abroad, making it the second-highest reimbursement among the government advisers. Dr. Salehuddin previously served as governor of Bangladesh Bank from 2005 to 2009.
Addressing questions regarding his overseas treatment, he stated, “I performed my duties with utmost honesty. At one point, I developed health complications that could not be diagnosed within the country. I sought government approval through the proper channels before traveling to Singapore for treatment, where I was treated on three separate occasions.”
During the interim government’s tenure, Dr. Salehuddin presented the Tk 7.90 lakh crore national budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, allocating Tk 41,908 crore to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Despite this significant allocation, hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis continue to seek medical care abroad each year.
