Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO).
He arrived at the SPARSO office located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Agargaon in the capital at 9:15 am on Sunday.
The concerned parties are viewing this surprise visit of the Prime Minister outside the pre-scheduled program with importance. He visited various departments of the organization under the Ministry of Defense and exchanged views with the officials and employees.
During the visit, SPARSO chairman Md. Rashidul Islam informed the Prime Minister about the overall activities, ongoing projects and future plans of the organization. Later, officials from various departments presented a detailed briefing on their innovations, research activities and ongoing work on satellite and remote sensing technology.
Then, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized on building SPARSO as a modern, up-to-date and self-reliant space research organization. He gave necessary instructions to the concerned to ensure the effective use of space technology in national security, disaster management, agriculture, environment and development planning.
During the inspection, Prime Minister's defense advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, defense secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin, additional press secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, private secretary-2 Md. Mehedul Islam, deputy press secretary-1 Zahidul Islam Rony and senior officials of the Ministry of Defense and SPARSO were present.
Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO) is a national organization engaged in the research, development and application of space science, satellite technology and remote sensing technology in the country.
