A tree plantation and sapling distribution programme was held at Jamalpur Science and Technology University (JSTU) with a message of building a greener future and protecting the environment.
Bashundhara Tissue and Bashundhara Shuvosangho jointly organised the initiative at the university campus on Tuesday to raise awareness about environmental conservation and address the adverse impacts of climate change.
New greenery was added to the open space in front of the female students’ hall and the courtyard inside the male students’ hall through the plantation drive. Saplings of different species were also distributed among students.
Assistant Professors of Management Department SM Yusuf Ali and Atikur Rahman, Kaler Kantho’s Jamalpur correspondent Rakib Hasan Nayan, Daily Sun correspondent Imran Mahmud, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon Jamalpur district unit General Secretary Mohammad Enamul Haque and JSTU Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Zeenat Mia Azizul attended the programme.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho JSTU unit President Humayun Kabir, General Secretary Md Shah Newaz Ahmed Akash and other members of the organisation were also present.
Speaking at the event, Asst Prof SM Yusuf Ali said, “The negative impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly severe. In this situation, there is no alternative to planting more trees to maintain environmental balance, control temperature and build a habitable planet for future generations. Such initiatives on university campuses will play an important role in increasing environmental awareness among students.”
Humayun Kabir said, “Bashundhara Shuvosangho has long been conducting environmental and public welfare activities across the country. As part of this continuation, saplings of different species are being planted and distributed at the JSTU campus. Such activities will continue in the future to protect the environment.”
