Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said in-house coaching should be provided for students in every educational institution alongside pre-test and test examinations. He also called for discussions with local management committees to determine teachers’ honorarium.
He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with central secretaries of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Madrasa, and Technical Education Boards on the upcoming HSC and equivalent examinations at Azimpur Girls School and College in the capital on Wednesday.
The minister said the government was working to reduce time loss in education by adjusting exam schedules, aiming to hold public examinations only after completion of a two-year course. He said the 2027 SSC exam had been planned for January, while the target was to publish this year’s SSC results on July 20. The HSC and equivalent exams are set to begin on July 2.
He said students currently enter school at age six and complete SSC around 16, with further delays at higher secondary level often pushing completion to around 20 years of age. He said this wasted productive time and affected the country’s “demographic dividend.”
He added that exam schedules were being coordinated with Ramadan and Eid considerations, and set based on feedback from students, teachers, and guardians, while ensuring the full syllabus is completed.
The minister said the government had taken a strict stance against exam irregularities and cheating, noting that laws had been updated as cheating patterns had changed. He said not only students but also heads of institutions would be held accountable if digital fraud or cheating was proven.
He also said steps were being taken to prevent question leaks, adding, “This time, a single question paper has been arranged across the country. If evidence of question leaks or irregularities is found anywhere, no one will be exempted.”
On evaluation reforms, he said examiner training would be increased, workload per examiner reduced, and book sampling introduced to ensure quality checking.
Dhaka-7 MP Hamidur Rahman, Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Akhtaruzzaman, and Secretary Professor SM Kamal Uddin Haider were present.
