Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday said he no longer wanted to discuss the issue of cheating on exams, noting that fraudulent practices have now shifted to digital platforms.
“I buried the word cheating a long time ago. I don't want to talk about it anymore. But now cheating is happening digitally. It has to be prevented that way,” he said while addressing a meeting with central secretaries of the Chattogram Education Board.
Speaking about the expansion of undergraduate programmes, the minister questioned the growing trend of introducing honours courses at educational institutions.
“In our country, there is only higher education and higher education. Everyone wants to open honours programmes. What is the need for this?” he said.
Referring to the evaluation process of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, Milon said the government would conduct random reviews of answer scripts across all education boards.
“We will randomly check records of all boards to see whether anyone has awarded more or fewer marks than deserved,” he said.
The minister's remarks came as the government continues efforts to improve transparency and accountability in the education sector.
