Bangladesh received around $30.32 billion in remittances during the fiscal year 2024-2025, with the US becoming the biggest source, thereby bolstering the nation’s foreign exchange reserves and economic stability.
However, the United States (US) overtook Saudi Arabia to become Bangladesh’s largest source of remittances.
Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury officially shared the information in the Parliament on Tuesday.
The information was presented in a written response to a question placed by BNP MP Selina Sultana. However, the minister was not present in the sitting. The questions and answers were tabled in the House.
According to the minister, Western nations and Middle Eastern traditional markets continue to serve as the pillars of the Bangladeshi remittance inflow.
The US emerged as the highest source of remittance during this period, contributing more than $4.7 billion, and overtaking the traditional top source, Saudi Arabia.
Second came Saudi Arabia with $4.2 billion remittances to Bangladesh, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) secured the third position with $4.16 billion outflows.
The United Kingdom (UK)) secured the fourth position with a remittance generation of $3.16 billion, and Malaysia came fifth with $2.8 billion outflows.
