After establishing herself as an actress on screen and stage, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed has stepped into film direction with her debut feature, “Someshwari”.
In addition to directing the film, she also plays a key role in it.
The film “Someshwari” has been produced by Bivesh Roy, who made the acclaimed feature “Dhaner Kabyo”.
The upcoming project was filmed in and around Madhyanagar, along the banks of the Someshwari River.
Several newcomers from Madhyanagar have acted alongside Nawshaba in the film.
According to the makers, Someshwari emerged through a collaborative creative process. Nawshaba, along with Apan, Lata, Zahid and others, jointly developed the story and screenplay before completing production.
Speaking about the project, Nawshaba said there was no fixed screenplay before the team arrived in Madhyanagar.
“Before going to Madhyanagar, there was no specific screenplay for the film. We went there and created a story centred on the local reality and the people. Initially, I had no plan to act in the film, but when we could not find anyone suitable for the central role, I eventually took on the character myself,” she said.
According to Nawshaba, Someshwari explores the adverse effects of unchecked modernity on nature and the environment. The film also raises important questions about the kind of world being left behind for future generations.
Produced by Bibesh Roy under the banner of Green Films of the International Academy of Film and Media, “Someshwari” is now preparing for release.
