Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is currently visiting China.
On Monday (June 22), at 11:05 pm local time, a special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman landed at Dalian Zhushuizi International Airport.
Beijing see the Prime Minister's visit as an opportunity to strengthen strategic communication with the new government of Bangladesh.
At the same time, this long-time ally of Bangladesh hopes to advance traditional friendship, accelerate high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), increase mutual communication and cooperation in all sectors, strengthen coordination on various multilateral issues, and take the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new height.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed these expectations at a regular press conference in Beijing on Monday.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making this visit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
In response to a question from a reporter from the Chinese media outlet 'China Daily' about his visit, Guo Jiakun said, "This is Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's first visit to China after assuming office. During the visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Lijie will separately meet and hold meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. These meetings will have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and various international and regional issues of mutual interest. The leaders of the two countries will determine the future course of China-Bangladesh relations."
As part of this visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also participate in the Summer Davos 2026 conference to be held in Dalian, China, he said.
He also said, "China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbors and partners of comprehensive strategic cooperation. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries in the past few years, bilateral relations have been continuously strengthened. Political mutual trust has increased and significant progress has been made in practical cooperation in various fields, which has brought tangible benefits to the people of the two countries."
Guo Jiakun said, “China hopes that through this visit, strategic communication with the new government of Bangladesh will be further strengthened, traditional friendship will be further promoted, high-quality Belt and Road cooperation will be expanded, and mutual exchanges and cooperation in various fields will be increased.”
In addition, Beijing hopes that the two countries will take the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new height through closer coordination on multilateral issues, he said.
