Bashundhara Shuvosangho handed over a makeshift, roadside peanut stall to an underprivileged man in Pathanpara village, Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat on Wednesday.
Susil Chandra Mahanta Shostha, 65, and his differently-abled wife had been struggling through poverty for a long time. Susil became overwhelmed with emotions upon receiving the roadside stall and saleable products from Shuvosangho.
"I never imagined that someone would do something like this for me at this stage of my life. Now I have the opportunity to support my family through my own hard work. I am sincerely grateful to Bashundhara Shuvosangho," he said at the stall handover ceremony.
For years, Susil Chandra had been struggling with extreme poverty while caring for his physically challenged wife. With no regular source of income, each day was a constant battle for survival. This initiative by Bashundhara Shuvosangho has brought renewed hope to his family.
M Russell Ahmed said, "True humanitarianism lies not in providing temporary relief but in creating opportunities for people to become self-reliant. We are delighted to bring a smile to Susil Chandra Mahanta Shastha's face. If more well-off members of society come forward, many more lives can be transformed."
Nazmul Hossain said, "Our greatest achievement is being able to bring happiness to a family's life. Bashundhara Shuvosangho will continue to stand beside underprivileged people through employment-based humanitarian initiatives."
Local dignitaries present at the event said that creating employment opportunities—not charity—is what restores a person's dignity.
