A Bandarban court on Monday ordered Myanmar’s Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) chief Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi to jail after rejecting his bail petitions in two separate cases related to the killing of a member of Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), reports UNB.
Bandarban Additional District and Sessions Judge Arun Pal and the Senior Judicial Magistrate of the Cognisance Court passed the orders following separate hearings.
Ataullah, who was brought to Bandarban from a Chattogram court under heavy security, is facing charges in multiple cases, including involvement in the death of the DGFI officer.
Earlier on March 19, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Ataullah along with nine others during a secret meeting in the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj district.
Security agencies have long linked Ataullah, a fugitive militant leader, to cross-border violence and armed activities in the Rohingya camps and border areas. His arrest has intensified scrutiny of ARSA's activities in Bangladesh.
