A two-day Zakat Fair-2025 will begin in the capital on Saturday with the aim of making people aware of the significance of zakat as one of the five pillars of Islam.
To be held at the city's Aloki Convention Centre, the 13th version of the fair is intended to encourage the stakeholders' interactions to help ensure the best use of the zakat fund.
Centre for Zakat Management (CZM), organiser of the event, on Thursday made the announcement at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital.
Convener of the Fair Organizing Committee Dr Mohammad Abdul Majid, Convener of the CZM Executive Council and Group Director of Rahimafrooz Group Munawar Misbah Moin and CZM CEO Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah were present, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Abdul Majid said zakat can play an important role in the realization of the dream of creating a discrimination- and poverty-free and justice-based society.
"Zakat is not charity. It is the right of the poor to the wealth of the rich. Zakat is a social movement, helping to create a dignified society by eliminating discrimination," he added.
He urged all to give zakat consciously for a prosperous future to play a role in the areas of poverty reduction, education, health and employment.
The fair will remain open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
