Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie on Friday said that Bangladesh won independence for the second time through blood of student-people during the movement of July-August and the independence will have to be retained.
"There are still many conspiracies going on. These conspiracies must be overcome and moved forward," he told the Provat Feri (Dawn March) of the district BNP marking the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in the capital.
Led by Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, leaders and activists of district BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal placed floral wreaths at local Shaheed Minar as a mark of respect to the language martyrs.
District BNP Member Secretary Sahabuddin Sabu, Joint Convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman, District Judge Court Public Prosecutor Ahmed Ferdous Manik and leaders of various educational institutions, social and cultural and professional organizations also laid wreaths.
Earlier, on the first hour at 12:01am, the district and upazila administration led by Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Sarkar and the police administration led by Superintendent of Police Aktar Hossain paid tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths on the central Shaheed Minar of Lakshmipur.
