Water bodies across the country are being closed due to encroachment and pollution, said Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhter.
She said, "Haors, baors and other water bodies are being destroyed across the country. This will reduce production and fishermen will be further affected."
She said this at a meeting with fisheries and livestock farmers at the Kustia Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Wednesday morning.
Referring to the slogan 'Jal Jar, Jala Tar', Advisor Farida Akhter said, "The issue is under review so that no one except fishermen gets the lease of water bodies. We recently held an inter-ministerial meeting between the Land and Livestock Ministries in this regard."
The advisor urged not to give unhealthy food and medicines to fish and other livestock in the hope of immediate profit.
She said, “Just as people need safe food, it is important that animal feed is also safe. Those concerned should play an effective role in this regard.”
Kushtia additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Mohd. Abdul Wadud, along with district administration officials, farmers from various levels and media personnel were present at the meeting.
