Towhid Hridoy scored his maiden ODI century, but Bangladesh managed only 228 runs before being bowled out in their Champions Trophy group-stage match against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Hridoy played a crucial knock of 100 off 118 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. He built a record 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Jaker Ali, rescuing Bangladesh from a disastrous start. This stand was the highest for the sixth wicket in Champions Trophy history and the biggest for Bangladesh against India for any wicket.
Bangladesh had slumped to 35-5 inside the ninth over, but Hridoy and Jaker helped them recover to 189-6. Jaker scored 68 off 114 balls with four fours before getting out in the 43rd over while trying to accelerate.
Rishad Hossain chipped in with a quick 18 off 12 balls, including two sixes and a four, pushing Bangladesh past the 200-run mark.
India’s pace ace Mohammed Shami led the bowling attack, finishing with impressive figures of 5-53. Bangladesh had opted to bat first but lost half their side within the first nine overs.
