Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement on Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
At 12:12 am on Friday, he placed a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city. Arriving at the premises as the clock struck midnight, he moved slowly towards the altar while the iconic song "Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February... Ami Ki Bhulitey Pari?" played in the background. He then stood in solemn silence, honouring the language heroes.
Advisers to the interim government, the chiefs of the three services, freedom fighters, diplomats, and senior civil and military officials attended the ceremony.
Later, the Shaheed Minar was opened to the public, with hundreds walking barefoot, carrying flowers, and softly humming the timeless Ekushey anthem in remembrance of the sacrifices made in 1952.
