At least 12 individuals who falsely claimed to be freedom fighters and obtained government certificates have applied to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to surrender their certificates.
Of them, a person who joined government service using the freedom fighter certificate has gone on retirement.
Another one, in his application, said that obtaining the certificate as a freedom fighter, providing false documents, was a great mistake.
Besides, some applicants have expressed their great regret and apologised, writing, “I am ashamed.”
Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, came up with the disclosure when the entire nation observing marking the country’s 55th Independence and National Day.
Earlier on December 11 last year, Azam, during a press conference, said that the Interim Government would ensure indemnity if anyone wants to remove name from the freedom fighters’ list voluntarily, otherwise punitive action will be taken against fake freedom fighters.
