The interim government has said Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus’ recent visit to China, which included a high honor from President Xi Jinping, will enhance mutual cooperation on key issues, reads a UNB post.
High Representative to the Chief Adviser Khalilur Rahman and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, highlighting the visit’s diplomatic and economic significance.
During the visit, Bangladesh invited Chinese companies to participate in the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project (TRCMRP). “They [the Chinese side] have also shown a positive approach,” said Khalilur Rahman.
Bangladesh acknowledged China’s role in promoting peace talks on Myanmar and resolving the crisis involving displaced people from Rakhine State. China, in turn, commended Bangladesh’s humanitarian efforts and pledged continued support for repatriation.
On investment, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik said Bangladesh was working to strengthen economic ties. “We met over 100 companies and their top executives. I presented why Bangladesh is an attractive investment destination and highlighted recent reforms to improve the business climate,” he said.
The two countries signed agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation, cultural exchanges, media collaboration, sports, and healthcare. Chief Adviser Yunus expressed gratitude to President Xi and invited Chinese leaders to visit Bangladesh.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to diplomatic cooperation, economic synergy, and the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, aiming to deepen political trust and expand strategic partnerships.
Dr. Yunus attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan from March 26 to 27, before visiting Beijing from March 27 to 29 at the invitation of the Chinese government. He met with President Xi on March 28.
