BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to return to Bangladesh from London in mid-April.
“What I have heard is that Madam (Khaleda) will return home in mid-April, but it is still not certain,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while speaking to reporters at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, reports UNB.
He added that Khaleda Zia’s health has improved in London, where she is celebrating Eid with her family.
“Eid is being celebrated there today (Sunday). She is celebrating this Eid with her family after eight years,” he said.
Khaleda is spending Eid-ul-Fitr with her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, their daughter Zaima Rahman, her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Shamila Rahman, and her two granddaughters, Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman.
Speaking to UNB from London, her personal doctor, AZM Zahid Hossain, said Khaleda’s family has made all necessary arrangements for Eid, ensuring she can enjoy the occasion with her loved ones. “You can understand that a lot of emotions are involved here,” he added.
This marks Khaleda Zia's third Eid celebration in London, following her previous stays during Eid in 2015 and 2017.
Zahid mentioned that the BNP chief is now mentally strong and in stable health. “She is much better now than before.”
He said Khaleda has been receiving treatment at home under the supervision of Professors Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross from The London Clinic since her discharge from the hospital on January 25.
Asked about the possibility of her return to Bangladesh, Dr Zahid said she could return any time after Eid, depending on her medical board’s advice. “I hope she’ll return home very soon, as her condition is now stable.”
Khaleda travelled to London on January 8 for advanced medical care and was admitted to The London Clinic.
After being discharged on January 25, she moved to Tarique Rahman’s residence, where she has been receiving treatment under the supervision of Professors John Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross.
The 79-year-old former prime minister has long suffered from multiple health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart issues, diabetes, and arthritis.
