There is no security threat in Dhaka city surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr, DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali said on Sunday, reports UNB.

“The residents of Dhaka were safe and sound throughout the month of Ramadan, and police successfully controlled petty crimes,” he said while speaking to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements at the National Eidgah Maidan, where the first Eid congregation will be held.

Besides, 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of the people in Dhaka.

The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), Detective Branch (DB), and Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) units will be responsible for securing the city.

He further mentioned, "As you know, the Bangladesh Army and our support forces are involved. We are all working together to establish a secure zone in Dhaka."

When asked about the police’s vigilance in preventing any potential anarchy or chaos during Eid, especially related to the Awami League, he said that the focus is not just on one political group, but also on banned organisations to ensure they cannot carry out any activities.

All devotees will be required to enter the National Eidgah through the main gate, where they will be searched at the archway. "We request everyone to use this route," he said.

To enhance security, plainclothes detectives and a special police team will be present around the area, working in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

As in previous years, a separate gate and prayer area for women will be available.

A watchtower will be set up for continuous monitoring, and the police will collaborate with other law enforcement agencies for security.

The fire brigade’s team will be on standby around the clock, along with an emergency medical team.

The commissioner also requested that attendees refrain from bringing bags or any flammable materials for safety reasons.
