Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested all three accused in a case over the sexual harassment of a female journalist in the capital’s Banasree area on Wednesday night.
Senior Assistant Superintendent Sanad Barua confirmed the arrests in a press release on Thursday.
Earlier, the victim, working at an English Daily, filed a case with the Rampura Police Station naming Shoyeb Rahman Jishan, 25, as the prime accused.
She also named two unidentified individuals as accused. Shortly after the case filing, Banasree-resident Shoyeb went into hiding with his entire family.
Multiple teams of RAB began surveillance and combing operations across the capital shortly after the sexual assault incident went viral on social media on Wednesday night.
Prime accused Jishan was arrested from the Meradia area past Thursday midnight, and based on his statement, the other two accused were nabbed on Thursday morning.
Kawsar Hossain, 21, was arrested from the Gendaria area while Raisul Islam was arrested from the Bailey Road area.
Legal proceedings are underway against the arrestees at Rampura Police Station.
According to the victim’s Facebook post, the three accused teased her at a juice bar in Banasree around 7:00 pm-8:00 pm Wednesday. At the time, her younger brother was with her and protested the harassment, only to come under brutal attack from the harassers.
The female journalist intervened to help her brother, but she came under attack. At one point, the assaulters inappropriately touched her. Even as she broke down in tears, the bystanders did come to the aid of her and her brother, she alleged.
Later, she filed a case under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
