The Bangladesh Coast Guard successfully rescued 300 passengers from a bulkhead trapped underwater near Elisha in Bhola. The incident occurred on Saturday night when the passenger bulkhead, "MB Zakaria Jihad-1," became stuck near Dubo Char Laxmipur, close to Elisha Launch Ghat in Bhola Sadar Upazila.
A passenger aboard the bulkhead contacted the Coast Guard through a mobile phone, alerting them to the emergency. In response, a five-member rescue team from the Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Elisha was swiftly dispatched to the scene. The team safely transferred all 300 passengers to Elisha Jetty.
All rescued passengers expressed their gratitude to the Coast Guard for their swift action. Lt. Commander Siam ul Haque, a media officer for the Coast Guard, confirmed that the bulkhead, along with its three crew members, had been detained for operating beyond its capacity. The bulkhead lacked both a passenger approval and fitness certificate. Legal action is currently being processed against the bulkhead and its crew.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of people in coastal and riverside areas and has vowed to continue such rescue operations in the future.
