Former Bangladesh captain and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan, who is also the uncle of Tamim Iqbal, offered an update on the star opener’s health following his heart attack on Monday at BKSP.
"At the moment, we are keeping him here at Dhaka Evercare Hospital," Akram Khan told reporters after the Independence Day cricket match between Bangladesh Red and Bangladesh Green today (March 26) at the Mirpur Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“What has happened, has happened. But we are determined to take him abroad for further treatment as soon as possible, following family discussions. We don’t want to add any unnecessary stress,” he added.
Akram also mentioned that the family had consulted with doctors, who reassured them that Tamim’s condition was stable enough for travel. “Tamim is doing well. He is in a normal state and even spoke to his wife,” he confirmed.
BCB director Najmul Abedin Fahim also reassured that the board would continue providing full support to Tamim.
“The medical team, trainers, and those present on the ground provided immediate care. It’s not just about courage but also about having the right expertise. We have the knowledge and resources, which proved vital in this situation. This is a huge positive for us,” he said.
Tamim collapsed on Monday at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) in Savar during a match in the Bashundhara Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) between Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) and Shinepukur Cricket Club.
He received immediate medical attention and was later transferred to KPJ Specialized Hospital, where a successful angioplasty was performed to clear a blockage in one of his heart arteries.
